Whoa, amnesty post needed

Goodness gracious!  It has been forever since I updated this blog.  What a fun and busy summer this turned out to be.  Let me recount some of the highlights since my last posting... let's see, 4th of July in Tyler with a family fireworks display and blueberries; a second trip to Sea World (my girls are still talking about it); Grace started kindergarten; Grace turned 5; we became a "diaper free" home, and Hailey got her ears pierced.

Grace loves school.  After her first day, I asked her what her favorite part of the day was, she told me it was running in the gym (during the YMCA's after-school program).  The conversation went something like this:

Daddy:  So you liked running in the gym, huh?

Grace: Yep.  I can run fast.

Daddy:  You are faster than all the boys, right?
Grace: Yes.
Daddy:  Good.  I want you to always be faster than those silly boys.  I don't want them catching you.
Grace:  Yea, I am faster.  They are easy to catch...

That conversation didn't quite go the way I had hoped it.  I am going to have to think a little quicker to stay in front of this one.

And Hailey, this girl... good grief.  She is 2 going on 22.  Shortly after turning 2, she just decided she was through with diapers.  No pull-ups at night, no swim diapers, nothing.  She just decided she wanted to wear big girl panties and that was the end of that.  Then, she told me one night that she wanted rings "here", holding her earlobes.  Brenda had always wanted to pierce the girls ears when they were really little.  Her thinking was that it would get the pain out of the way when they were too young to remember, and it would be easier for mommy to take care of them.  Logical, no doubt, but I figured putting holes in their ears was something they should have some decision in.

She was a very big girl.  We told it would hurt, but just for a minute, like getting a shot.  She was undeterred.  Grace, she wanted nothing to do with it.  Grace says she will wait until she is 16 or 18 or 100.  But Hailey loves the sparkles in her ears.  She has also done very well with taking care of them so far.

So that's the world here in Round Rock.  It has been a dry, hot summer here.  With wildfires all around us this summer, we feel extremely blessed, and though the drought continues, we are thankful for cooler weather coming.  Maybe I will be able to blog a bit more frequently, if not, well... Merry Christmas!

Grace's Birthday pictures

Count Brenda and I into the category of fans of Portrait Innovations! Leading up to Grace's first birthday we took her to have her picture taken at Sears every 3 months so that we could watch her grow. Each time it was a difficult experience. Nobody at Sears seemed to be able to get Grace to interact at all. It usually came down to Brenda and I deciding on 1 decent picture out of the set to use. For Grace's 2 year old picture, we decided to try someplace different. We went to Portrait Innovations. Talk about a great experience. Just like in the previous times, Grace was fussy and not at all interested in having her picture taken. The difference was that this time, the photographer took her time to draw Grace in and make her feel more comfortable. We took some family shots and used lots of different props to keep Grace engaged. It also helped that they took a ton of pictures! Not only did they take lots of pictures, we used 2 different studio rooms and several diffe...

C'mon Mom, it's just PB and J!

When Mommy makes Grace a sandwich, she takes lots of time to cut the sandwich in small, manageable pieces for Grace. Mommy also has a thing for clean fingers, clean hair and hopefully clean ears. There is certainly nothing wrong with this approach. I applaud her enthusiasm for Grace's manners. However, sometimes... well, come on... really. It is just peanut butter and jelly. At this point, I should probably take a moment to thank the sponsors of this particular blog entry, Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Gramma's Strawberry Preserves. Gramma's Strawberry Preserves and Peach Butter is only available at a small pantry in Tyler, TX. She doesn't advertise, she doesn't sell her products online, heck, she doesn't even sell her products period... But those in the know, know where to go to get their jelly fix. Since I am down to my last jar of Strawberry Preserves, and I am completely out of Peach Butter, it must be about time for another journey to East Texas. Since Gramm...

Grace has a secret!

We took some cute pictures of Grace that we thought we would share. Brenda had her doctor's appointment today, and we are excited to share the news! Brenda is pregnant! The nurse said she is 8 weeks and 3 along making her due date April 24th. We have known for awhile but wanted to wait until her first visit before we shared our news. Please celebrate with us and pray for a happy and healthy pregnancy. The irony of the shirt is that we haven't told Grace yet, although she has been talking about a baby brother or baby sister for months now. It's kind of funny, we would ask her, "would you like a baby brother or a baby sister?" To which she always relied "Yes!". So we would ask her, "Which one?" "I hold baby brother, you hold baby sister!" Brenda is feeling fine. She has had more nausea this time around, but no actual morning sickness, so we are counting our blessings. Its been hard to keep it a secret, Brenda has been very tired, so our...
