Getting ready for Hailey

We keep a dry erase calendar on our fridge door. Its a place where we keep track of upcoming trips, events and such. Brenda updated the calendar yesterday and we realized just how close we are to welcoming Hailey into our lives.

First we had to get Grace into her big girl bed, so we could use the crib mattress for Hailey. We borrowed Missy and Richard's crib and put that in Hailey's room. Brenda picked out the new bedding for Hailey's room (ladybugs) and we put Gramma on the mission of finding the perfect accessories.

Brenda also put the pack-n-play up in the family room and moved around Grace's toybox and toys to make more room. It will be time to get the infant carrier and bases out of the garage and get those cleaned up soon.

Today we are going to tour the new Women's Center at the hospital. It is the same hospital where Grace was born, but they have added a whole new wing with the maternity center including lots of new labor and delivery and recovery rooms. I can only hope that they have improved those awful couches!

We still need to add a few more pieces to make Hailey's room complete, but it won't be long! I will have some pictures soon of Grace and Hailey's new rooms.

Type 2 Diabetes - An Inconvenient Journey

I wish I wasn't the type of person that needed to get hit in the head with a 2x4 before I take action.  I really do want to be the type of person who heeds the warning signs that appear when someone else is walking through a challenge and is able to apply them to my own life.  I am 44 years old and I have a literal lifetime of warning signs, sounds, flags, banners, smoke signals and alerts that have been going off all around me. It isn't a news flash that obesity causes a variety of health-related issues.  I took health in junior high and high school.  I have been told many times by teachers, trainers, coaches, doctors, and nurses that I cannot outrun or outlive poor choices in diet and exercise.  As an adult, I have read many books on topics of health and self-improvement that encourage healthy habits and stress the importance of using daily exercise to reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health and increase energy.  I have read about the importance of...

C'mon Mom, it's just PB and J!

When Mommy makes Grace a sandwich, she takes lots of time to cut the sandwich in small, manageable pieces for Grace. Mommy also has a thing for clean fingers, clean hair and hopefully clean ears. There is certainly nothing wrong with this approach. I applaud her enthusiasm for Grace's manners. However, sometimes... well, come on... really. It is just peanut butter and jelly. At this point, I should probably take a moment to thank the sponsors of this particular blog entry, Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Gramma's Strawberry Preserves. Gramma's Strawberry Preserves and Peach Butter is only available at a small pantry in Tyler, TX. She doesn't advertise, she doesn't sell her products online, heck, she doesn't even sell her products period... But those in the know, know where to go to get their jelly fix. Since I am down to my last jar of Strawberry Preserves, and I am completely out of Peach Butter, it must be about time for another journey to East Texas. Since Gramm...

Hailey is 9 months old today

Yes, it is rather cliché, but where does the time go?  Today, Hailey is 9 months old!  I can hardly believe it.  It won’t be long until she is walking, talking and giving her sister fits!  Of course as a parent, we want to let our kiddos develop into their own unique best.  And while we certainly don’t want to always compare Hailey to Grace, it is hard not to look for the similarities and marvel at the differences.  For each of the girls, we have had studio pictures taken every 3 months for the first year of their lives.  This has given us a great chance to see at least physically how much they have in common.  Here for your enjoyment are 2 albums from today’s sitting.  The first are some wonderful pictures, many of which we had prints made.  The second album is well… expressive.  I figure by the time the girls reach “marrying” age (you know, 30 something, or long after I am dead and gone), I should have a huge stockpile of pict...
