February 13, 2007 - Happy Anniversary Gramma and Grampa!

I am not getting any better about this am I? It has been a couple of months since I updated the website, I apologize. If only I could find some way to get my thoughts onto this page in an automated fashion, life would be so much easier.

So what is new at the Cornish house? Lots! We had a wonderful holiday season. Believe it or not, we managed to NOT run ourselves into the ground with parties and shopping and such. We managed to enjoy time together as a family and enjoy time with our extended families here in Round Rock and in Tyler.

Here are some highlights:
- Mema wearing her bright fuscia Crocs (we have sucked Mema into the wonderful world of cloud walking). She is in fine fashion now, sporting her "laissez faire" style in the usual stark, conservative fashion halls of the Rosewood Senior Living.
- Santa Claus hit the ball out of the park with Grace's new kitchen. She is decked out with the finest Little Tikes kitchen Santa could fit in his sleigh. Of course she needed a coordinating apron and chef's hat.
- Brenda and I bought bikes with our Christmas money. We wanted something that would promote some sort of exercise since the pool is bit too chilly right now. We have managed to get them out and ride them and hope to ride them more during the Spring.
- We bought Grace her first bike as well... she loves to wear her helmet, but she is just about an inch or so too short to reach the pedals.
Since Christmas, we celebrated the New Year with a house full of family and friends. Chuck, Sherry, Madison, Melanie and Todd came down for a couple of days. Melanie and Todd stayed with us, while Chuck, Sherry and Madison stayed with Tom and Cheryl. Its probably a form of tragic comedy that we spent the better part of the time leading up to midnight rooting against the guy trying to jump a football field in Vegas. With every attempt we waited with baited breath to see if he would slide into the concrete pole while he was building up speed for the jump. It was close, but alas it was not to be... the guy stuck the jump not once, but twice.

We also went to the George Strait concert in January with Tom and Cheryl. The most remarkable thing about the show was that I actually LOST the tickets! Nowhere to be found... after searching in vain for hours with Brenda, she called the box office. We explained that the tickets were lost in the house somewhere, but we had no idea where. Amazingly, the offered to re-print the tickets and make them available at the Will Call window for a nominal $3.00 fee. Are you kidding me??? For 3 bucks?? Wow, absolutely! I figured there was no way that they would re-issue the tickets.

Now that we are into February, we are smack dab in the middle of our busiest month as a family. I celebrated my birthday with friends out to dinner and with family at home. It was a fun weekend which lead straight into this week, our 3rd wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day. This is the first year since we got married that we weren't off on a trip to celebrate. It was nice to be home, although we could have done without going to work! We celebrated at Joe DiMaggio's Italian Chop House restaurant dining on bone-in ribeye and Chicken Parmesan, followed by a trio of Amy's Ice Cream. Amy's Ice Cream is a local institution here in Austin, it is incredibly rich and decadent.

As for a Grace update, the girl is a weed. She just keeps growing and growing. She talks all the time and you can even understand her some of the time! Every toy, cup, ball and doll turns into an imaginary phone. "Ha Whoa?" and "Hi Ya" are her 2 favorites. The girl can also find her body parts! Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, belly button (she has had this one down forever), toes, fingers, hair... you name it, she can find it. Gram, the brave soul that she is has also embarked on potty training with some very promising results! She also likes to count to five, although 3 and 4 sometimes get lost. "1, 2, 5!" We think that she has grown to about 35 inches or so... so she comes up to almost eye-level with Gram! Sorry... couldn't resist. Gram did say that Grace absolutely had to start school if she passed Gram in height!

I need to go download some more pictures for the website. I will try to have those available soon. That's my pitch to keep you coming back for more, more often!!

Oh! I almost forgot! Dawn and Nathan, I just wanted you to know that Brenda and I are already thinking up some great things to send our next care package. Hopefully, we can keep you on your toes, guessing what wacky-out of this world- stuff we will send next.

Much love to everyone!

Grace's Birthday pictures

Count Brenda and I into the category of fans of Portrait Innovations! Leading up to Grace's first birthday we took her to have her picture taken at Sears every 3 months so that we could watch her grow. Each time it was a difficult experience. Nobody at Sears seemed to be able to get Grace to interact at all. It usually came down to Brenda and I deciding on 1 decent picture out of the set to use. For Grace's 2 year old picture, we decided to try someplace different. We went to Portrait Innovations. Talk about a great experience. Just like in the previous times, Grace was fussy and not at all interested in having her picture taken. The difference was that this time, the photographer took her time to draw Grace in and make her feel more comfortable. We took some family shots and used lots of different props to keep Grace engaged. It also helped that they took a ton of pictures! Not only did they take lots of pictures, we used 2 different studio rooms and several diffe

C'mon Mom, it's just PB and J!

When Mommy makes Grace a sandwich, she takes lots of time to cut the sandwich in small, manageable pieces for Grace. Mommy also has a thing for clean fingers, clean hair and hopefully clean ears. There is certainly nothing wrong with this approach. I applaud her enthusiasm for Grace's manners. However, sometimes... well, come on... really. It is just peanut butter and jelly. At this point, I should probably take a moment to thank the sponsors of this particular blog entry, Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Gramma's Strawberry Preserves. Gramma's Strawberry Preserves and Peach Butter is only available at a small pantry in Tyler, TX. She doesn't advertise, she doesn't sell her products online, heck, she doesn't even sell her products period... But those in the know, know where to go to get their jelly fix. Since I am down to my last jar of Strawberry Preserves, and I am completely out of Peach Butter, it must be about time for another journey to East Texas. Since Gramm

Grace has a secret!

We took some cute pictures of Grace that we thought we would share. Brenda had her doctor's appointment today, and we are excited to share the news! Brenda is pregnant! The nurse said she is 8 weeks and 3 along making her due date April 24th. We have known for awhile but wanted to wait until her first visit before we shared our news. Please celebrate with us and pray for a happy and healthy pregnancy. The irony of the shirt is that we haven't told Grace yet, although she has been talking about a baby brother or baby sister for months now. It's kind of funny, we would ask her, "would you like a baby brother or a baby sister?" To which she always relied "Yes!". So we would ask her, "Which one?" "I hold baby brother, you hold baby sister!" Brenda is feeling fine. She has had more nausea this time around, but no actual morning sickness, so we are counting our blessings. Its been hard to keep it a secret, Brenda has been very tired, so our
