Taking a stroll down memory lane

As I am working on closing down our family website, I have been re-visiting a lot of our old pictures. While I won't be bringing all of those albums over to this blog site, I did want to bring over enough to serve the purpose.

One of the fun things I just did was to go through and watch Grace grow, month by month. Wow. For an adult, months pass by as a predictable unit of time. We often measure our progress in these terms. For example, starting my new job, it took me approximately 3-4 months to get assimilated and feel fully productive. I know I am 2-3 months from being in the full swing of Spring, so I know what projects I need to layout in order to prepare. What does the pool need, what does the landscaping need, etc... Time is relative, and while for me the last 17-18 months have flown by, there has been a tremendous amount of change going on in this little girl!

To see her expressions come alive, to watch her hair grow, watch her go from a fairly stationary newborn, to a wiggly baby, to a crawling machine, and into a fully mobile toddler has been extraordinary. I put up a slide show in the panel on the right of this album, but please, go check it out and view the pictures full size. It was a lot of fun for me and I am sure if you will get a smile out of it too. There are some other albums that I have added there as well, and you are invited to check them out.

Oh my!! Amazing that for all but about the first 2 months, Grace has been in my care almost every day. Overwhelming to think of the responsibility I have to help her learn as she grows. On her part she is doing fantastic which at least makes me look good!! She is so precious and I'm honored to have her in my care every day!

It is amazing to watch a little one grow. It's like going to the Grand Canyon. While you are there every thing is changing constantly, but you're there cherishing the moment. And then you look back at the amazing photograph you took and realize that every piece has now changed.

Here's to appreciating every moment!

love, nik.

Grace has a secret!

We took some cute pictures of Grace that we thought we would share. Brenda had her doctor's appointment today, and we are excited to share the news! Brenda is pregnant! The nurse said she is 8 weeks and 3 along making her due date April 24th. We have known for awhile but wanted to wait until her first visit before we shared our news. Please celebrate with us and pray for a happy and healthy pregnancy. The irony of the shirt is that we haven't told Grace yet, although she has been talking about a baby brother or baby sister for months now. It's kind of funny, we would ask her, "would you like a baby brother or a baby sister?" To which she always relied "Yes!". So we would ask her, "Which one?" "I hold baby brother, you hold baby sister!" Brenda is feeling fine. She has had more nausea this time around, but no actual morning sickness, so we are counting our blessings. Its been hard to keep it a secret, Brenda has been very tired, so our...

C'mon Mom, it's just PB and J!

When Mommy makes Grace a sandwich, she takes lots of time to cut the sandwich in small, manageable pieces for Grace. Mommy also has a thing for clean fingers, clean hair and hopefully clean ears. There is certainly nothing wrong with this approach. I applaud her enthusiasm for Grace's manners. However, sometimes... well, come on... really. It is just peanut butter and jelly. At this point, I should probably take a moment to thank the sponsors of this particular blog entry, Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Gramma's Strawberry Preserves. Gramma's Strawberry Preserves and Peach Butter is only available at a small pantry in Tyler, TX. She doesn't advertise, she doesn't sell her products online, heck, she doesn't even sell her products period... But those in the know, know where to go to get their jelly fix. Since I am down to my last jar of Strawberry Preserves, and I am completely out of Peach Butter, it must be about time for another journey to East Texas. Since Gramm...

Grace goes to see Elmo's Green Thumb

Brenda and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day on February 12th with a nice dinner out, just the 2 of us. You couldn't drag me into a restaurant on Valentine's Day night with a pack of wild horses, so we take advantage of having our anniversary so close. Plus, when I send flowers on the 12th, I get a 2 day head start on getting the freshest, most beautiful flowers delivered to Brenda and she gets a couple of days longer to enjoy them in her office. So what did we do today to celebrate Valentine's Day? We took Grace to see Elmo's Green Thumb! We didn't tell Grace until this morning that we were going, so it was a complete surprise. So, was it worth it to spend Valentine's Day at the Erwin Center surrounded by enough toddlers in diapers to make anyone nervous? Take a look at the grin in the first picture. It was definitely worth it. I don't how to say this without making us sound incredibly pretentious, but Brenda and I decided...
